Welcome to Politics to Pastries! I’m Christine, and I’m the baker behind the blog.
Originally from Florida, I moved to Washington, DC at the end of 2010 to pursue a career in politics. I eventually landed my dream job practicing campaign finance and election law on Capitol Hill and, a few years later, it led me to my dream fiancé. One day we were working on a congressional recount in Arizona and, in what seemed like the next, I was moving across the country to a new city, new home, new job, and with a sparkly new accessory.
While I love politics, I obviously have another love in my life: baking. Although I grew up baking with my mom every holiday season, it wasn’t until the end of law school that I really pursued it on my own. My efforts had very humble beginnings, using lots of pre-made ingredients for simple desserts, but, as time went on, I continued to take on new challenges and eventually found myself with a little arsenal of confectionary skills. Over the past few years, especially, baking has become a creative outlet and something I repeatedly turn to for an escape. It’s playful, it’s pretty, and it makes people smile. Baking is more than just a hobby for me – it’s my happy place. I eventually felt compelled to share that happy, and here we are.
When I set out on this project, I of course wanted the spotlight to be on baking, but I also wanted to incorporate some other facets of the life of a young professional and soon-to-be “Mrs.” exploring the Valley of the Sun. I clearly have a sweet spot for baking, but since I also have a fondness for my faith, food & wine, fitness, football, fashion and events, I thought it would be fun for a blog to cover those topics too – touching on any number of things, from politics to pastries. So, in addition to the sweets, you’ll find a number of “features” that delve into local happenings, the Phoenix food scene, fashion finds, good reads, blog collaborations, and other things that warrant a little love.
Thank you again for visiting Politics to Pastries! It really means a lot that you took the time to stop by. Look around, enjoy, and I hope you’ll be back soon!
